Rüsselsheim/Munich. With a strong and motivated two-car team, the ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team will enter another demanding season in the European Junior Championship for drivers up to 27 years (FIA ERC Junior U27) from 22-24 March in the Azores. After Emil Bergkvist (Sweden, 2015), Marijan Griebel (Hahnweiler, 2016) and Christopher Ingram (Great Britain, 2017) won the last three European Championship titles with the dart-fast Opel ADAM R2, the fourth trick is to follow in 2018 against tough international competition.

To this end, the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team is bringing two promising young drivers to the start. The Swede Tom Kristensson (26, Hörby) not only won the title in the highly competitive ADAC Opel Rallye Cup in 2017, but also secured the co-driver's coveted cockpit in the ADAM R2. New in the team is the Latvian Mārtiņš Sesks. The 18-year-old talent from Liepāja, the scene of the season finale in the FIA ERC Junior U27, attracted attention last year with strong performances and will now contest a full season in Europe's toughest junior championship for the first time alongside his co-driver Renārs Francis.

"Winning the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup title and promotion to the ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team are still a dream come true for me," says Kristensson. "With three European championship titles in a row, our predecessors set the bar enormously high. All the greater is the ambition to do the same." Sesks adds: "Being able to drive in such a professional team as the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team was one of my big goals in rallying. Now it's up to us to seize this huge opportunity."

Six demanding events are on the agenda of the FIA ERC Junior U27, while three asphalt rallies on Gran Canaria as well as in the Czech Republic and Italy face just as many treacherous gravel competitions in the Azores, Poland and Latvia. Four of the six individual results are included in the year-end ranking of the FIA ERC Junior U27. In August the ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team also contests the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. And also with high ambitions: In the past four years, the class victory in the RC4 category at the German round of the FIA World Rally Championship went to one Opel driver each.
