Rüsselsheim/Munich/Rome. The ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team has won the third round of the European Junior Rally Championship (FIA ERC Junior U27) as part of the Rally di Roma Capitale. The 18-year-old Latvian Martins Sesks celebrated his first victory in the ERC Junior in the Opel ADAM R2 and thus also took the lead of the standings in the highly competitive European junior championship at half-time of the season. The strong double victory for the three-time European Champion team was completed by Tom Kristensson (27) from Sweden, who celebrated his first podium finish in the FIA ERC Junior U27 and moved up to third place overall behind his stable mate Sesks and Peugeot driver Efrén Llarena.

Martins Sesks and his co-driver Renars Francis delivered an impressive performance at the asphalt race around the Italian capital Rome. The Balts set the best time in no fewer than nine special stages, secured the seven bonus points for winning the first stage classification and confidently managed their lead on the second day. "It was a picture-book rally," beamed Sesks at the finish. "We quickly found a good rhythm in our ADAM R2 and successively adapted the vehicle set-up to the constantly changing track conditions. Once again my service crew did a perfect job, the ADAM R2 ran like clockwork. Against this fantastic backdrop here in Rome. This first victory with my ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team in the FIA ERC Junior U27 I will not forget so soon"!

Tom Kristensson and co-driver Henrik Appelskog also commented joyfully on their first podium finish in the FIA ERC Junior U27: "It was really time," emphasised last year's ADAC Opel Rallye Cup champion. "At the beginning we had a hard time finding the limit of the ADAM R2, had to struggle with a puncture in between, but got better and better after some small setup changes. Our pace was really good and I am really happy that we were able to clinch the one-two victory for the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team in the end".

After the triumph of Rome, Opel-Ass Sesks is the European Rally Championship leader in both the Junior European Championship and the ERC3 intermediate standings. The fourth round of the FIA ERC Junior U27 will again take place on asphalt from 24 to 26 August during the traditional Barum Czech Rally Zlín in the Czech Republic.
