The guarantor of success from Rüsselsheim

Also in the 2018 season there was no way around the Opel ADAM R2 in the R2 category of the international rally scene. Ten titles, 41 class victories and 99 podium places speak for themselves.

In its fifth year of homologation, the Opel ADAM R2 continues to set the standards in its highly competitive class. The strong balance of the past rally season, at any rate, seamlessly continued that of previous years. In the European Junior Rally Championship, the drivers of the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team cleared the scales on a very large scale in 2018. In addition to the two European championship titles for the Latvian Mārtiņš Sesks in the FIA ERC Junior U27 as well as the ERC3, there were also the European crowns for Sesks' co-driver Renārs Francis in the co-driver classification as well as in the nation and team classification for the ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team. On the European stage the ADAM R2 won five out of five possible titles. Sesks/Francis and their Swedish team-mates Tom Kristensson/Henrik Appelskog each won two of the six rounds of the 2018 European Junior Rally Championship and celebrated a total of nine podium places.

At the national level, too, the ADAM R2 once again performed well. In twelve national championships Opel customers won five titles - Luca Waldherr in Austria (2WD classification), Tim Novak in Slovenia (Division 2 and Division 5) as well as Grégoire Munster, who won the vice title in the ADAC Opel Rally Cup as well as the RC4 and Junior classification in the Belgian Rally Championship. The "Blitz" is also traditionally strong in the German Rally Championship, where in 2018 it wasn't enough to win the title but to clinch five class victories and twelve podium places. In addition to Belgium (four victories, eight podium places), the Opel faction was also strong in Italy (four victories, five podium places). Overall, the ADAM R2 clinched at least one class victory in nine national championships.

All in all, this year's success account of the 190-hp rally flee from Rüsselsheim reads impressively: 227 races resulted in 41 class or division wins (this corresponds to a quota of 18 per cent) as well as 99 podium places, which means that ADAM R2 drivers were on the podium in 43.6 per cent of all rallies contested in total. The balance for the ADAM R2 is even more impressive since its homologation in February 2014. In five seasons there have been no fewer than 32 championship titles, 220 class victories and 428 podium places in a total of 942 races. This makes the rally car built by Opel's development partner Holzer Motorsport in Bobingen near Augsburg and also used in the European Championship, still the first choice internationally in the RC4 category for R2 vehicles.
