High motivation before the end of the season

Gigantic field of participants at the final of the 2019 European Junior Rally Championship in the Czech Republic. The Opel juniors Grégoire Munster and Elias Lundberg want to give a strong final presentation in their ADAM R2 at the Barum Czech Rally Zlín.

The season finale of the European Junior Rally Championship (FIA ERC3 Junior Championship) will take place unusually early this coming weekend in the Czech Republic - and with a real classic. The Barum Czech Rally Zlín, held for the first time in 1971 around the city of Zlín with its 75,000 inhabitants in the east of the country not far from the Slovakian border, is regarded as one of the most demanding and treacherous asphalt events on the continent.

The field of participants is once again gigantic. A total of 138 rally vehicles will tackle the Czech asphalt race, including no less than 40 (!) R2 cars in the RC4 category, 14 of which are named in the FIA ERC3 Junior for drivers up to 27 years of age. In addition to the two cars of the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team with the Opel juniors Grégoire Munster (20, Belgium) and Elias Lundberg (21, Sweden), four other ADAM R2 cars, all piloted by Czech teams, will be competing. Even though the fifth European Championship title in a row is no longer possible for Opel, the two Opel works teams are in for a lot. After a season with ups and downs, the Munster/Louka and Lundberg/Arhusiander duos want to prove that they are beaten by their current overall positions of 7 and 9.

"Our motivation to perform well in the finals couldn't be greater," Munster says. "Louis and I showed an encouraging pace at the last rally in Rome, but unfortunately were unable to convert it into a top result. At the Barum Rally, which I contested last year in a private ADAM R2, we want to show the same good pace and bring our adventure in the ERC Junior to a positive conclusion. We have seen this season how high the level in the JERC is, but also that we are able to maintain this high level if we do our thing right. And we'll do everything we can to prove that in our last race for the ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team."

For colleague Lundberg, the first thing was to heal his left arm, which had been injured in Rome. "Everything's okay again", the Scandinavian reported before leaving for the Czech Republic. "David and I want to close the JERC season, which was full of problems for us, with a good result. Above all, we want to reward the incredible work of our ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team crew throughout the season. I'm really looking forward to the Barum Czech Rally Zlín. Its characteristics will be a new experience for us. And the field of participants is impressive. We will concentrate on increasing our pace on tarmac and simply give our best".

The Barum Czech Rally Zlín covers a total distance of 755.52 kilometres, of which 15 special stages cover 219.63 kilometres. The spectacular Super Special Stage in Zlín on Friday evening (16.8.) from 9.15 p.m. on is the kick-off, at which several thousand spectators are expected again. The actual rally will begin the following day at 10:16 a.m. with eight special stages, after which the top seven in the stage classification will earn up to 7 bonus points. The second stage on Sunday from 8.43 a.m. comprises a further six stages. The official finish in Zlín starts at 16:39 hrs.
