Wednesday, September 26, 2018

Team EFP by TECE concluded its debut season in the ADAC GT Masters positively with a good performance of both cars at the finale in Hockenheim. Florian Spengler (30, Ellwangen, Germany) in the Audi R8 LMS with starting number 12 and starting position 19 managed a good first qualifying, while his team mate Elia Erhart (30, Roth, Germany) in the sister car with the 11th was braked by two training interruptions and did not make it past 33rd place on the grid. The Audi of Spengler and his partner Dries Vanthoor (20, Zolder/B) also played a strong role in the first of the two one-hour races with driver change. The advance of the Swabian-Belgian pairing only ended in eighth place. Erhart and Pierre Kaffer (41, Salenstein/CH) crossed the finish line in 26th place.

The second run was even better the following day. With a very strong lap Vanthoor drove in the second qualifying on Sunday morning on the initially wet but rapidly drying race track the 12er-Audi into the first starting row, while Kaffer only got stuck on position 21, because he had to avoid a competitor in his fastest lap, who after a ride in the Sachskurve back on the track, which cost the former DTM drivers a good second. The race, however, was anything but as desired for Vanthoor. After an unfortunate collision immediately after the start the young Belgian could only tow the damaged Audi back to the pits. Erhart/Kaffer, meanwhile, indicated with their advance to 14th final place, which would have been possible with a little more luck and a better starting position.

"We were very satisfied with the performance throughout the weekend," praised team boss Thomas Holzer. "The cars and the car set-up worked well, our drivers had fun both in the dry and in the rain. The positive trend of the last races has continued. We're also feeling that the acceptance on the part of Audi managers and competitors is increasing. This is the basis on which we can build for the future. It was a great season in one of the most fiercely contested championships in Europe!
