  • Tom Kristensson wins the Latvian Rally in ADAM R2 and is Vice European Champion
  • Champion Mārtiņš Sesks completes the Opel double triumph at his home match
  • The ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team wins all five possible European Championship titles in 2018

Rüsselsheim/Munich/Liepāja. Tailor-made season finale for the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team. At the rally Liepāja, the season finale of the European Junior Rally Championship (FIA ERC Junior U27 around the Latvian port city of the same name) the 27-year-old Swede Tom Kristensson and the 19-year-old local hero Mārtiņš Sesks in the Opel ADAM R2 of the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team celebrated a sovereign one-two victory. After Sesks had already landed the fourth consecutive Junior European Championship title for Opel, Kristensson also cemented the vice European Championship title in the contested European junior championship with this victory.

Kristensson, who had already won the RC4 group classification of the rally Liepāja last year in a privately fielded ADAM R2, delivered an outstanding performance on the ultra-fast gravel tracks on the Baltic Sea coast. Last year's ADAC Opel Rally Cup Champion and his co-driver Henrik Appelskog won no less than ten of the twelve spectacular special stages over a total of around 200 kilometres, won both stage classifications and scored the maximum of 39 points possible in an ERC round.

"It was a rally like a picture book," enthused winner Kristensson. "A fantastic racing car, a great team, fantastic gravel special stages and also postcard weather - a rally couldn't be better. Henrik and I had a good feeling in our ADAM R2 right from the start. The first best times came without us having to take exaggerated risks. And when things go so well, you have to make sure that you don't fall out of this rhythm. And we did that well, also because we didn't have the slightest problem on both days."

European Champion Sesks and co-driver Renārs Francis underlined the strength of the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team by winning the remaining two special stages and a commanding, controlled drive to second place. It was their fifth podium place in the sixth event of the season. Besides, the two Latvians also secured Opel's one-two win in the RC4 classification. "After the two misadventures in Poland I initially found it difficult to rebuild confidence in the cockpit," said Sesks. "With time, however, we got in step better and better and were still able to set two best times. Compliments to Tom, who was very strong here. But with second place in this great rally around my hometown in front of so many fans, friends and partners I can live very well. Especially after such a great season with the biggest success of my career so far".

With its convincing performance in Latvia the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team has made a big showing in its fourth full season in the European Rally Championship. In addition to the premature fourth consecutive title win by Mārtiņš Sesks and the runner-up championship by Tom Kristensson in the FIA ERC Junior U27, the Opel duo also celebrated a one-two victory in the ERC3 final account for two-wheel drive vehicles. In addition there are the ERC3 European Championship titles for co-drivers (Francis ahead of Appelskog) as well as the win of both the team classification and the ERC Nation Cup by the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team.

"This impressive result reflects the enormous potential of the ADAM R2 as well as that of our two drivers and the entire team. Only if a highly qualified and highly motivated team pulls together with passion, ambition and joy, such a success will be possible. My compliments and thanks go to all those who have contributed," praised Opel Motorsport Director Jörg Schrott.
